Directed by S.R. BINDLER | USA | 1997 | 97 min

In Hands on a Hard Body, documentary filmmaker S.R. Bindler profiles twenty-four Texas contestants trying to win a brand new Nissan Hardbody truck.

Hosted for over a decade, the yearly competition  required the contestants tokeeping one hand on it longer than everyone else. As the hours stretch into days, exhaustion, determination, humour, and heartbreak reveal the contestants’ deepest hopes and struggles. What begins as a simple promotion becomes a powerful portrait of American ambition, perseverance, and the human spirit.

"A classic piece of Americana... produces gales of laughter... a metaphor for the rigors of human existence."
VARIETY

"Gripping and cathartic, the culminating face-off packs a punch most big-budger blowouts would be hard-pressed to match."

In a constant cycle of survival and separation, a married couple must go to extreme lengths in the marshlands of Zapata to provide for their son.

To the West, In Zapata is the result of an eight-year process, an immersive viewing experience shot under extreme conditions. For his first and mst personal project, Bim's intention was to witness the daily and painful separation of a family as the only viable mechanism to stay united. It unfolds through time with a quiet striking beauty.

The film premiered at Visions du Réel 2025 where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and Special Jury Prize. It has since won the CineVision Award at Filmfest München, the Special Jury Prize at DMZ Docs, and Jury Award for Best Documentary at Hamptons International Film Festival.

Followed by a Q&A with director David Bim.
